WHAT IS THIS RESEARCH ABOUT?
The knowledge and skills nursing students develop during their undergraduate studies have a direct impact on patient safety. However, we currently have a limited understanding of how much students know about patient safety. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore third-year Bachelor of Nursing students’ knowledge of patient safety.
WHY HAVE I BEEN ASKED?
You have been invited to participate in this study because you are a nursing student in their final year of study.
IF I SAY YES, WHAT WILL IT INVOLVE?
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete one anonymous web-based quiz consisting of 45 questions. Your name will not be linked to your answers and the quiz will include no identifying information.
The quiz will take approximately 15 -20 minutes to complete. On completion of the quiz you will be able to download a certificate of achievement outlining your results.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS/INCONVENIENCE?
There are no risks associated with the study.
DO I HAVE TO SAY YES?
Participation in this study is voluntary. It is completely up to you whether or not you decide to participate. Submission of the quiz will be taken as implied consent.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I SAY NO?
You are free to decline to participate. Whether or not you decide to participate, your decision will not disadvantage you in any way and will not affect your relationship with university staff.
IF I SAY YES, CAN I CHANGE MY MIND LATER?
You can change your mind at any time while completing the quiz. However, your responses from the questions you do attempt may be included in the study data.
CONFIDENTIALITY
The quiz is anonymous and it will not be possible to identify you from your answers. Only the research team will have access to the data. Data will be kept secure on password protected files at the University of Technology Sydney for five years. It will then be destroyed in a secure manner.
The quiz results will be presented in journal articles and conferences. Individual participants will not be identified in these reports. If you would like a full copy of the results of the research please contact the researchers.
